Microneedling by SkinPen
Improve collagen production, hyperpigmentation, pore appearance, skin texture, light scarring.
The SkinPen is a device that uses Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s texture, tone and color. 12 tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with softer wrinkles.
What are the benefits?
Wrinkle reduction, texture, tone improvement and softer younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. New collagen production helps reverse sun damage. The SkinPen also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
How is the procedure done?
Numbing cream is applied. A sterile needle-tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the SkinPen. A thin layer of a hydrating gel to your skin. I will choose the appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
What does it feel like?
The feeling is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the needle tip makes the treatment comfortable.
What is the downtime?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the depth of the needles used and the number of passes performed. Most people are red the 1st day, pink on the 2nd day, no redness on the 3rd day. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.
When will I see the results?
Patients will notice an immediate glow to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months to a year after the treatment as collagen production continues.
How many treatments will I need?
While this depends on each individual, I almost always recommend starting with our package of 3 treatments one month apart. After completing the package of 3, most people need another treatment 6 months apart (twice a year). The SkinPen also pairs very well chemical peels, IPL Photofacials, and our Ultherapy Treatment!
